Organic Koucha Momiji / JAPAN

$35.00Price

This Japanese black tea is characterized by its natural sweetness, lack of bitterness, and great patience. It is distinctly smoother and low in astringency. Fresh new leaves that grow in early summer form emanate a dusky, sensual perfume.

Over the past decade, tea farmers meticulously honed their distinctive processing methods, influenced by valuable training acquired Sri Lankan renowned tea farmers. Diverging from the conventional practices prevalent in both India and Sri Lanka, their commitment lies in preserving the integrity of the full tea leaf throughout the entirety of the meticulous processing, eschewing the common practice of tearing.

Appearance: The dry tea leaves have a distinct dark brown color.

Aroma: Upon brewing, the tea releases a captivating aroma that combines the earthy and woody notes of the Hojicha with the enticing smokiness of the Yakusugi. The fragrance is warm, inviting, and evokes a sense of being in a cozy log cabin surrounded by a cedar forest.

Flavor: milder flavor compared to some other black teas. Koucha Momiji has less astringency than teas from other regions.

Mouthfeel: The tea has a medium body. The texture is smooth, contributing to an overall pleasant mouthfeel.

Steeping Suggestions: To bring out the best flavors it is recommended to use water at around 90°C for steeping. A steeping time of 1-2 minutes is a good starting point, but feel free to adjust according to your preference. Multiple infusions are possible, with each steeping offering its own nuances of flavor.
